After repairing countless GQ Patrol roofs and gutters affected by rust, we realised we simply couldn't keep up with the demand. Instead of repairing one Patrol at a time, we started manufacturing replacement roof panels that you can weld in yourself.

Our replacement roof panels are made from 1.0 mm cold-rolled steel and are designed to suit all Nissan GQ Patrol models, including SWB, LWB, low roof and high roof. Each panel is 100 mm high, allowing it to suit high-roof models or to be rolled over to recreate the full side profile of a low-roof model, or simply be trimmed to the size you need.

Whether you're carrying out a full restoration or repairing a small rusted section, we offer roof panels in lengths from 200 mm up to 1 metre, so you only need to replace the damaged area.

Installation

The recommended repair method is to drill out or grind away the factory spot welds and separate the original roof skin from the gutter. Drill 6-8 mm holes along the lower flange of the replacement panel so it can be plug welded back onto the gutter, replicating the factory construction. Finish by welding around the upper edge.

Take your time during welding and avoid overheating the roof. Excessive heat will distort the roof skin, so short welds and allowing the panel to cool between passes will produce the best result.

Plug welding: Match the factory spot weld spacing where possible. This is typically 25–40 mm

When done correctly, a plug weld can be as strong or stronger than the original spot weld. The key is:

  • Clamp the panels tightly together with vice grips or G clamp depending on your tools available.
  • Ensure the lower panel is clean, copper spray or weld through zinc/primer is recommended between panels to prevent rust in the future .
  • Start the weld on the lower panel, then fill the hole outward.
  • Aim for full penetration without excessive buildup,

Once all welding is complete, apply a quality seam sealer along every joint before priming and painting. This helps prevent moisture from entering the seams and significantly reduces the chance of rust returning.
